Bios of the Sarcoma Team
at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center |
G. Douglas Letson, M.D.
Associate Professor of Oncology, Surgery,
Radiology and Orthopaedics
Program Leader, Sarcoma Program
Dr. Letson received his pre-doctoral training at the University of South Florida and
attended medical school at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He then completed his Orthopedic Residency at Louisiana State University and continued on to
complete a Musculoskeletal Tumor Surgery Fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.
Within a year of taking a position at USF working at the H. Lee Moffitt Center and Research Center,
he established the Sarcoma Program.
Dr. Letson is an internationally known surgeon and is well
respected with his new developments and surgical techniques in limb salvage surgery. He speaks
around the world on limb salvage surgical techniques and has developed multiple oncology systems
for skeletal reconstruction.
He is presently undergoing research with new metals that allow for improved limb salvage in
that the dome bone and soft tissue cancer and muscles can grow into the metallic prosthesis. |

Dave Johnson, PA-C, graduated from Physician Assistant School at the University of Florida in 1993.
He has worked in orthopedics for 13 years, 3 years encompassing orthopedic oncology. He currently is
employed at the University of South Florida, Moffitt Cancer Center where he specializes in bone and
soft tissue sarcomas and the management of primary and metastatic bone disease. He has been invited
nationally to present on these diseases.
He is the Associate Chair of Midlevel Education at Moffitt Cancer Center and resides as the
CME Chair of the Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology. |

Gina Z. D'Amato, M.D.
Assistant Professor
Medical Oncology and Hematology
Sarcoma Program
Dr. D'Amato received her both undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. She then completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and continued on to complete a Medical Oncology/Hematology Fellowship at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, FL. Following her fellowship, she became a member of the Sarcoma Program at the H. Lee Moffitt Center and Research Institute.
Dr. D'Amato is an internationally known Medical Oncologist and is well respected in the field of Sarcoma. She speaks around the country on emerging treatment for sarcomas. Her research interests include basic science research in PI3k/Akt/mTOR inhibition of sarcomas and early phase clinical trials involving novel anticancer agents for sarcomas. |

David Cheong, M.D.

Dr. Cheong received his pre-doctoral training at the University of Florida and attended medical school at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. He then completed his Orthopedic Residency at Orlando Regional Healthcare and continued on to complete a Musculoskeletal Tumor Surgery Fellowship at the University of Miami Miller College of Medicine in Coral Gabels, FL. Following the completion of his fellowship, he took a position at USF working at the H. Lee Moffitt Center and Research Center in the Sarcoma Program.
Dr. Cheong is interested in bone and soft tissue sarcomas in both the pediatric and adult populations. Focusing on limb salvage and complex joint reconstruction, he is also director of physical therapy at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. |

Samuel V. Agresta, M.D., M.P.H. & T.M.

Dr. Agresta received his pre-doctoral training at the Georgetown University and attended medical school at Tulane University Medical in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also received a Masters Degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University Health Science Center. Dr. Agresta then completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Tulane University Health Science Center and continued on to complete a Medical Oncology/Hematology Fellowship at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL.
Upon completion of his fellowship, he accepted a position at USF working at the H. Lee Moffitt Center and Research Center in the Sarcoma Program. Dr. Agresta's interests include clinical investigations with novel agents along and in combination with traditional therapy for bone sarcoma. |
